Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold
On the 7th Circuit Court Decision to Release Georgia Thompson
and the Ongoing U.S. Attorney Investigation
April 10, 2007
“The Seventh Circuit acted decisively to correct what appears
to have been a miscarriage of justice in the Georgia Thompson case.
In light of ongoing concerns about the politicization of U.S. Attorneys'
offices around the country, I am seeking further information from the
Department of Justice on how this case and voter fraud cases after the
2004 election came about and whether there was improper political pressure
to pursue them.”
Read the letter
Senator Russ Feingold sent along with fellow Senate Judiciary Committee
members Senators Kohl, Leahy, Schumer, Feinstein, and Whitehouse to
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales regarding their concern whether or
not politics played a role in the case against Georgia Thompson.”
