Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold
On Senator Specter’s Proposal Addressing the President’s
Domestic Wiretapping Program
April 27, 2006
“I completely agree with Chairman Specter that Congress is entitled
to full details on the President’s illegal wiretapping program,
and I’m glad the Chairman is pressuring the Administration to
come clean. I also agree that Congress has been “inert”
in carrying out its oversight responsibilities with regard to this program,
and executive branch officials are stonewalling those of us who are
pressing for more information. This is an untenable situation, and I
share the Chairman’s frustration.
I continue to believe that an appropriate and responsible step at this
point is to censure the President for breaking the law and misleading
the country.”
