Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold on Meeting with Supreme Court Nominee Judge John Roberts July 27, 2005 I was pleased to have the opportunity to sit down with Judge Roberts today and I look forward to continuing our conversation at the Judiciary Committee hearings. Judge Roberts is an accomplished and affable person, and I enjoyed talking with him. I will be learning more about his record and his views in the coming month and at the hearing. Before voting to confirm anyone to this most important post, I must be satisfied that the nominee will approach the difficult and controversial issues that the Court is called upon to resolve with an open mind, not a pre-set ideological disposition. I look forward to determining whether this nominee meets that standard.
