Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold On the President's Stop in MilwaukeeMay 19, 2005 At the Listening Sessions I hold around our state, I hear the people of Wisconsin loud and clear: a vast majority of Wisconsinites aren't buying the President's privatization plan for Social Security. The President's most recent proposal to make broad and deep benefit cuts would make a bad privatization plan even worse for the people of Wisconsin and the Social Security system. Far from extending the solvency of Social Security, the President's plan would accelerate insolvency by 11 years and add $5 trillion of debt that he would pass on to the younger workers he spoke to today. I welcome the President to Wisconsin -- I just wish he spent more time listening to people's serious concerns about the threat that his plan poses to the health of the Social Security program.
