Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold on the Justice Department Report on the USA PATRIOT ActJuly 13, 2004 The report released today by the Justice Department has no mention whatsoever of the most troubling provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act that potentially threaten our privacy and civil liberties. Even as the administration scrambles to defend the PATRIOT Act, it continues to avoid engaging in an open, honest dialogue about the specific provisions that are fast losing credibility. People in Wisconsin continue to voice their concerns with that flawed legislation, and just last week, a bipartisan majority of the Wisconsin congressional delegation voted to repeal one of the more egregious provisions of the PATRIOT Act. This report does nothing to address these concerns. |
