FEINGOLD
RECEIVES PERFECT SCORE FOR
RECORD ON REFORM ISSUES
League of Women Voters Hails Feingold for 2007 Voting Record
February 25, 2008
Washington, D.C. –
U.S. Senator Russ Feingold has received a perfect score for his 2007
record of supporting good government reforms. In a report released by
the nonpartisan League of Women Voters (LWV), Feingold was hailed for
his votes on reform issues including the lobbying and ethics reform
bill he championed, as well as civil liberties, voting rights for Washington,
D.C. residents, climate change, and health care. Feingold was the main
architect of tough lobbying and ethics reform legislation that the LWV
lauded as the legislative highlight of 2007. Feingold was one of only
nine senators to receive a perfect score from the LWV.
“The American people
sent a clear message in 2007 that they wanted a change in the way government
works in Washington,” Feingold said. “I am honored by this
recognition of my commitment to lobbying and ethics reform, protecting
civil liberties, addressing climate change, and reforming health care
– all of which are so important to the people of Wisconsin.”
Feingold worked hard and
showed that Congress can work in a bipartisan fashion to pass meaningful
reform. Last year’s historic lobbying and ethics reform legislation,
signed into law in September 2007, curbs lobbyists’ gifts and
privately funded travel, slows the revolving door between Congress and
lobbying groups, improves lobbying disclosure, and prohibits elaborate
parties for members of Congress at party conventions. For 2008, Feingold
has outlined five issues – presidential public financing reform,
health care, education, the environment, and the deficit – that
he will address in a bipartisan fashion.
