Press Release of Senator Feingold

Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold on the Economic Policy Institute's Jobs Tax Credit Proposal

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

“The Economic Policy Institute’s jobs tax credit proposal deserves serious consideration.  We need to do something to get more people back to work.  While some parts of the economy are showing improvement, employment continues to lag.  The official unemployment rate is nearing 10 percent, and adding in those who have given up looking for work, or part-time workers looking for full-time work, the number is 17 percent.  According to EPI, from 2008 to 2011, the income of the average middle class family will be $3,500 lower than it was in 2007, and even worse for those out of work.  A jobs tax credit is one option we should consider to address unemployment, which must be a top priority.”
