Press Release of Senator Feingold

Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold On Voting Against the Iraq Supplemental Conference Report

Friday, May 25, 2007

“I voted against the Iraq supplemental spending bill because it did nothing to end the open-ended military mission in Iraq, which has over-burdened our military, weakened our national security, and cost the lives of thousands of American soldiers. There were provisions in the supplemental which I strongly support, like the SeniorCare extension which I worked with Senator Kohl to draft and include in the bill. I also support the provision extending the MILC program to help Wisconsin’s dairy farmers. In fact, I consistently urged my colleagues to retain that important program. But on balance, I could not vote for a bill that defies the will of so many Wisconsinites by allowing the President to continue one of the greatest and most tragic foreign policy blunders in the history of our nation.”
