“I condemn the aerial bombardment and military offensive by the Sudanese Armed Forces in Muhajiriya, South Darfur, which has the potential to greatly worsen the humanitarian situation. I am also troubled by reports that several of the bombs dropped have been in close proximity to UNAMID grounds and that the Sudanese government is impeding the movement of UNAMID forces. I strongly support Ambassador Susan Rice’s call on the Sudanese government to halt this bombardment and respect the status of forces agreement. I intend to work with her and the Obama administration to renew international efforts to protect civilians and establish peace in Darfur.”
