CRAWFORD COUNTY RESIDENTS RAISE AGRICULTURE AND HEALTH CARE ISSUES AT LOCAL LISTENING SESSION January 2, 2008 Prairie du Chien, WI – U.S. Senator Russ Feingold heard from constituents at his Crawford County listening session in Prairie du Chien today at the Prairie du Chien City Hall. Approximately 52 people from around the county attended the listening session where topics included agriculture and health care. Crawford County was Feingold’s 2nd listening session of 2008, and his 1082nd since he was first elected. Senator Feingold has pledged to hold listening sessions in all of Wisconsin’s 72 counties each year of his six-year term, and this is his 16th year of holding them. “I always look forward to meeting with constituents in Crawford County, and this is now my sixteenth year of holding these open meetings in every county around the state,” said Feingold. “These listening sessions are an excellent opportunity for me to hear directly from constituents about any issues or concerns they may have, and I appreciate the effort people make to attend these meetings and let their voice be heard. Their ideas and advice continue to enable me to serve the people of Wisconsin to the best of my ability.” Before the Senator listened to and took questions from participants, he discussed five bipartisan initiatives addressing key issues he will push in 2008: health care, education, election reform, the environment, and the deficit. Advancing bipartisan legislation is a top goal for 2008 for Feingold, who has introduced legislation on health care reform, reform of the No Child Left Behind education law, public financing of presidential elections, clean water restoration, and fiscal responsibility – issues which all have bipartisan support. While Feingold acknowledges that enacting these bills will take time, a bipartisan approach to addressing these issues is critically important.
