One of the keys to a good education is having skilled teachers in the classroom. I commend the thousands of bright, talented, dedicated individuals in our state and around the country who have chosen to join this challenging and rewarding profession. Teachers are on the front lines of our educational system, and they deserve our support. I am concerned that the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) places additional burdens on our teachers while failing to provide the necessary resources for professional development and other programs that help teachers to continue their own education, thereby enhancing the education of our children.

I am committed to ensuring that the federal government provides adequate funding for good professional development programs. I will continue to work to give our teachers the support and recognition they earn each and every day as dedicated stewards of our children’s education.
